How to Have a Perfume Made for Your Own Brand
To have a perfume made for your brand, first turn your product idea into a brief that can guide production. Then work with a manufacturer whose scope and rights are clear to manage samples, packaging, compliance, and ordering. The process varies with the level of customization and supply conditions; written product approval is the key reference before production.

Then work with a manufacturer whose scope and rights are clear to manage samples, packaging, compliance, and ordering. The process varies with the level of customization and supply conditions; written product approval is the key reference before production.
Prepare the product brief
Describe the target customer, scent family, preferred and excluded notes, use context, product size, and price position. Visual references can help, but describe your own product goal instead of asking for another brand’s formula to be copied.
Explain which market, sales channel, and collection the first product will belong to. These choices affect the bottle and label.
Clarify scope and rights with the manufacturer
Ask whether the quotation includes scent development, sample rounds, packaging supply, filling, labeling, packing, and document coordination. Request exclusions and pricing assumptions too.
Formula and design ownership, confidentiality, exclusivity, repeat orders, and change approvals should be addressed separately in the contract.
Assess samples and packaging together
Test the sample for scent development over time and its intended use. Make feedback specific, and record what changed in each revision and which sample is the final reference.
Check bottle-pump fit, leakage, label placement, and box protection on real samples. Packaging is not a decision independent of the formula.
Complete compliance and order approval
Verify applicable product safety, label, and notification requirements for the destination market with qualified advice. State responsibilities between brand and manufacturer rather than leaving them assumed.
Before ordering, review the approved specification, quantity, price, payment and delivery terms, change process, and defective-product procedure. Keep the approved sample for quality comparison.
Give feedback in terms of opening, development, intensity, target wearer, and use occasion instead of simply ‘good’ or ‘bad’; it helps the producer interpret revisions more accurately.
